On December 7, 2023, the San Bernardino County Public Defender’s Office and the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department’s Community Service & Reentry Division (CSRD) joined forces to spread holiday joy at the Parent and Child Connection (PACC) program within the Glen Helen Rehabilitation Center.

The PACC initiative facilitates incarcerated parents in recording themselves reading books to their children, accompanied by heartfelt personal messages, fostering the cherished bond of reading between parent and child. In a heartwarming gesture for this festive season, Children’s Fund generously provided toys, enabling each parent to send a special gift to their child this year!

With the dedicated presence of CSRD social workers and members from the San Bernardino County Public Defender’s Office, including Public Defender Thomas Sone, on-site assistance and support were extended to aid these parents in reconnecting with their families.

This year marked a significant milestone as the collaborative efforts of the San Bernardino County Public Defender’s Office and the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department’s Community Service & Reentry Division were honored with the prestigious Achievement Award in the Criminal Justice and Public Safety category by the National Association of Counties (NACo). This recognition was one of the outstanding 160 awards received by San Bernardino County in 2023, setting a remarkable record.

The heartfelt gratitude of the San Bernardino County Public Defender’s Office and CSRD extends to Children’s Fund, whose generous contribution of toys added a cheerful touch, brightening the holiday season for the children of these affected families. Additionally, appreciation is extended to CSRD for their continuous efforts in evolving and ensuring the positive impact of this invaluable program on these families.
